Hey there. I'm Erin, the owner and designer behind Candy Kirby Designs. I'm a lover of fabric, crinkly quilts, anything striped and candy (obviously!). CKD is where I make my fabric daydreams come true.
This little business was born shortly after having my long-awaited twin girls. I was a new stay-at-home mom and was looking for something to focus my creative energy on. I started sewing and selling baby ruffle rompers, dresses and blankets. It was fun for a little while, but grew tiresome as my girls got bigger. I closed my online shop and focused on my family. Before I knew it, our family of four became a family of five and we welcomed a baby boy into our land of pink and ruffles. He and I spent a lot of time alone together while he battled through some health issues. It was during that time that I started playing around with fabric design on my laptop while he would sleep on my chest.
My Irish triplets are the inspiration behind my fabric designs. I relaunched CKD in January 2013 with $100 in fabric and a dream. I wanted to create a business that could grow with me as I raise my babies, expand my creativity and employ other mothers in my community. I started selling baby leggings in six prints and I now have a large assortment of products in over 45 prints. This home-based business has expanded and grown, but I still draft all of my patterns at my kitchen island, sew at my dining room table and design all of my fabric collections at my bedroom desk. It isn't easy trying to juggle being a business owner, wife and stay-at-home mother to three little ones ages 3 and under, but I love the challenge.
I've paid careful attention to source my raw materials and use fabric printers that are right here in the USA. Most of my fabrics are organic and all of my designs are printed with water-based, non-toxic inks that are safe for little ones. I don't sell, design or ship anything that I wouldn't be proud to have my own babies wear or be wrapped in. What started as a one-woman show now includes 4 seamstresses, 3 fabric printers and a local manufacturer. CKD has been featured on blogs such as Better Homes and Gardens, The Land of Nod, Oh Joy! and Babble. My designs are in retail stores and online shops around the world. I love this little business of mine and am excited and anxious to see where it goes and how it grows. Thank you for stopping by and being a part of my journey.
